Derek Lam Spring 2011

– Posted from my iPad

This is what New Yorkers look like when they’re on vacation. Angelinos on the other hand look like they just rolled out of bed. I am an Angelino so really I’m talking about myself. But of course, New Yorkers vacation in the Hamptons and Angelinos in Mexico. The Derek Lam girl is always polished but here she is more relaxed and a bit sportier. Everything is flowy and relaxed with a 70’s flare. The denim trench is genius!! You can’t see the back but all of the coats (and some tops) have a bustled ruffle back with a short train. Soooo amazing!! And I am loving the 70’s denim pant suit, the high waisted jeans might flatten your butt but you will have legs for miles. He always does great prints, he has a “Rorschach” (my own interpretation, maybe I need to see a shrink) velvet overprinting dress that will go a long way – it’s the kind of dress that will take you from day to night, casual to formal, all depending on the shoes. Oh and the shoes! Don’t even get me started on the platform flat sandals. They are platforms but are almost perfectly flat. LOVE!! Back to RTW, another fantastic print is what appears to be oversized tweed which he calls “check hessian with encaustic print” (see, he is playing mind games with us). The loose feel is carried thru to evening with sequin skirt and embellished tank or an intricately pleated long white dress and a wind blown tan and umber snake print (kind of looks leopard) print gown. If I were shopping, the sleeveless trench and Rorschach print dress would be in my shopping bag.
