Roberto Cavalli Diva Bag

Roberto Cavalli Diva Bag 2.jpg

Because no designer anniversary would truly be complete without the launch of an all-new handbag, Roberto Cavalli used the occasion of his 40th anniversary show over the weekend in Milan to mark the world debut of his new Diva bag. Available in seven different color/texture combinations, including canvas and python, brushed calfskin, China blue glossy calfskin, denim with natural leather trim and pony leather with jaguar or zebra print, the collection may be new, but certainly not a one-off; Cavalli, in fact, plans to evolve the offerings to complement his future ready-to-wear collections.

The intricately fringed version that hit the runway aside, my initial thoughts on the bag are that, save for the somewhat discreet–by Cavalli standards–logo affixed to the front, it’s actually quite a practical bag. With its slightly trapezoidal shape, it’s certainly roomy enough to be an everyday bag–it’s primary purpose–and the fact that it comes in three sizes will allow Bag Snobs to pick the one that fits their body size. Also, the metal parts are galvanized to achieve a light gold effect, the exclusive distinguishing factor of this collection. I really like the earth canvas/python and all-over China blue combinations, but for those wanting a little inconspicuous excitement, rest assured: the lining features the familiar Cavalli “animalier” print. What’s your favorite version?

The first models will be for sale starting in November, 2010.

The price range is $1,205 – $3,060
