Christophe Decarnin is starting to walk down an expected route–and that could prove hazardous without a yield sign. The salon of the Grand Hotel, with pounding music switching from Rachmanunoff to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” to the Sex Pistols ushering the arrival of a punk revival. The results? Leather bustiers covered with safety pins, trademark skintight jeans (some covered in blood-red dye) and staples galore–often times added to the studs that were spread generously across frayed denim, micro-skirts, and cropped leather jackets. A moment of newness came in the form of bleached “stars and stripes” motifs on T-shirts and jackets. No dresses figured into the collection this season, so hardcore Balmain night owls should find it interesting to adapt their spring wardrobes. At the end of the day, the collection remained through and through the ideal wardrobe for the rich, young girl.
