It was a rock ‘n’ roll adventure from look one, as Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection roared open with the pounding guitars of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts on the soundtrack and closed with a surprise appearance by Beth Ditto. Fitting, given his theme tribute to the “Queens of Rock,” and inspiration found in London in the late Seventies. Adorned with Joan Jett spiky wigs and smudged eyes, the models stomped down the catwalk in backless patent boots as they worked a series of tight fitting looks: skinny jeans, cropped bomber jackets, silver metal bras and lace knickers. jumpsuit was a key look, cast in satin and star-spangled with astro print. Gaultier cuts a terrific trenchcoat, once again seen here, and it progressed well into the group of Victorian floral print dresses. Every look came with fishnets or black patterned tights–a reminder that this is Gaultier’s show, and he’ll party if he wants to.
