In a show that had Valentino Garavani himself giving a standing ovation, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccoli achieved success in carving out a solid identity for the brand that was nothing short of cool (not exactly a word associated with the brand in its former life). With a ferociously loud and thumping soundtrack replacing classical music, the pretty dresses in sheer chiffon, not to mention the gown in a watered down Valentino red, created ripples of satisfaction with the audience. An occasional shot of coral or neon pink nicely accented the belted threads of leather and metallic chains that were embellished and cut away on the ruffled cap sleeves. With the continuation of ruffles and lace, it was a collection that was highly wearable through and through–perfect for cocktail parties and the early spring social season to come. For that early spring chill, a Valentino lace princess coat will more than satisfy the bill.
