Hilary Swank in Marchesa

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held their 2nd Annual Governors Awards last week in Los Angeles. Hilary Swank attended wearing Marchesa Spring 2011. This black and blue tulle dress has hand-painted details on the fabric. The sculpted ruffles cascading down the front bring some drama to a regular cocktail dress. I love that the dress was shortened from the version on the model, as it seemed like too much fabric. Hilary wore some amazing Christian Louboutin Margot booties, in true Marchesa form.

A dress with such massive details and structure like this could be pretty difficult to pull off, but I feel like Hilary did it justice. I would be really worried about hitting people all night with my gigantic pouf of fabric on my hip. And could you imagine sitting? I’d fear my ruffle would end up getting pushed up towards my face. But I would stand all night for Marchesa.

  1. Too many things went wrong there – the size – its not tight enough around her hips and that adds volume to a dress that doesn’t need any more volume than it already has, the length – now the lower ruffle looks like a gigantic tail, the placement of the top ruffle – it kind of blocking her chest instead of balancing out the lower ruffle, the shoes – is it really necessary to have any more details, ruffles, flowers?, the proportions – don’t even get me started. And the worst is – she looks uncomfortable. Neah… 😉
