Viktor & Rolf “Just in Case” Bag

Not every brand is destined to have a leathergoods line. While accessories are without a doubt what supports the majority of A-list labels nowadays (Dior? Chanel? Vuitton? Prada?) it takes the perfect alignment of form meets function–with a dose of luck–to launch an accessories line. So you can imagine my apprehension with Viktor & Rolf. The Dutch duo makes some fabulous women’s and men’s wear, but handbags?

For spring the duo have their “Just in Case” bag–a cheeky twist on the traditional suitcase shape that follows in line with their irreverent fashion sensibility. While the black and white sequined zebra pattern is a bit down-market for my tastes, I do think the buttery calf skin day bags are chic and utilitarian and should resonate with women all over the world–regardless of whether or not they’ve actually heard of Viktor & Rolf.

I love the rich brown color (other shades include black, fresh aqua and soft pale pink) which is available in three sizes: the clutch-like “Compact Case”, the medium-sized “Just in Case” and the large shopper “Day Tripper Case.” Furthering that suitcase sensibility, each bag is embellished with solid metal corners, serving as protective edges and providing a bold, but not overwhelming, contrast to the soft leather. Each bag also includes a detachable shoulder strap and sturdy and sleek top handles. And for the anti-logo set, simply remove the detachable leather tag and you’re good to go!
