These days, it seems everyone’s been bitten with the Kate Middleton bug. So was it any surprise that, to the tune of Barry White’s “Love’s Theme,” Oscar de la Renta sent out an impressive 59 looks that ended with a trio of finale gowns that were, to say the least, grand. One featured a matching cardigan and two with toreador jackets–voluminous in proportion, rich with bullion and threadwork embroideries and plenty of feather detail. These gowns whispered royal wedding. They mouthed “Westminster Abbey.”

Gorgeous gowns aside, de la Renta covered a vast amount of territory with this strong collection festooned with ripe colors and rich textures. While said above gowns impressed, wearable day looks–a white peasant blouse and chinchilla-trim broadtail vest anyone?–prevailed. That was on top of the tweed suits with cropped jackets, palazzo pants and long-sleeved dresses. The shocking pink skirtsuit? A home run. Further along, a red and black column gown came sauntering down accessorized with a fuchsia scarf wrapped around the model’s do–Queen Rania anybody? As to be expected, sophistication at its best is best served de la Renta style. Imposters need not apply.
