This is Valentino’s big new bag, not big as in size but big as in their push to have an iconic piece. All I can think of is what late adopters they are to the stud trend. It’s like when your mother gets on a trend you know it is way past it’s prime. It’s the same feeling young folk have about their parents on Facebook. There is also another notable oddity, this is kinda just half a bag, the straps attach to a longer back side and the opening reminds me of a Murphy bed. It’s more of an insert for a much larger bag as perhaps, a filing system. I suppose the studs can easily be removed going forward but the design leaves me feeling empty and incomplete. But Valentino does have an older clientele (Rolling Stones fans who appreciate the has-been rocker look) so this might be a hit for them! At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1595 for the leather. Man Snob Jim reviewed this bag last month in red. I did not like it at all then, but in this color, I think it is very ladylike and nice. It is a little too prim, structured and 60s-inspired for my personal style, but on the right woman, I think it would look great. I do hope that this is not Valentino’s attempt at an “it” bag though. I don’t think it is practical enough for that. I also think this will be dated soon – Mad Men brought back this type of style, but soon, there will be something else that will peak our interest.
Had I not known this is a valentino bag, I would bet it is a plastic imitation of some fancy brand. UGLY is the only word that comes to mind (oh and overpriced)
It just doesn’t make sense. The bag is very lady like for say an older woman who lunches but the studs just don’t go with that look at all. I love studs but this is just all kinds of wrong.
Ouch – “has been rocker?” Perhaps an apt description for me – but I still hate the bag. Studs should be bold, not these anemic handle version. Like the bag can’t make up its mind whether it’s naughty or nice..and succeeds at neither
Such a let down for Valentino. When I think of a Valentino bag, this is far from it. What a feeble attempt at a ladylike and edgy combination. The bag looks like it came from Forever 21 (cheap).
