Michael Kors Fall 2011 30th Anniversary Collection

Michael Kors celebrated his 30th anniversary with a collection that stayed true to his core sensibilities. He had quite the front row of friends including, Debra Messing, Bette Midler, Angie Harmon, Rene Russo, Angelica Houston, Catherine Zeta Jones, Michael Douglas, Emma Watson, Patti Hansen and Nina Garcia. I kind of couldn’t concentrate on the show at first, luckily the runway snaked around twice so I was able to catch up and regroup.

The coats and jackets were his signature fluid shapes and OCD-like clean lines. The dresses were flow-y and goddess inspired. His furs made a statement with sheer volume without restraint – a big explosive fox cape that swept the runway in majestic form, full length fox “bathrobe”, a long knee length smoky fox vest that lingered behind. I loved the more relaxed feel of this collection – caftan, bathrobe cut jackets, pajama pants, toga gowns, bodysuits, halters, jumpsuits – especially the poncho in doublefaced cashmere angora over chiffon pajama trousers. All I need is a fainting couch and a martini – clean with 3 olives, please! The separates were ultra sexy, killer plunging center slit tops and skirts slashed all the way up the thigh. There was not a lot of drama even in the evening looks, beautiful crystal draped gowns that are wearable for parties, but not really red carpet. Smart boy, now that the economy is heading up, he is looking for sales rather than editorial.
