Diane von Furstenberg by H. Stern: Karma Sutra

The Diane von Furstenberg by H. Stern fine jewelry collection is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Belgian-American designer and Brazilian-German jewelry house, which has already included watches and the popular “Sutra” chain-link bracelet. Highly personal, pieces are inspired by Diane’s memories and lifestyle and engraved with mantras (a.k.a. sutras) based on Diane’s own handwriting. Words such as Love, Laughter, Freedom, Harmony, Confidence, Truth, and Life are delicately engraved in low relief on double-sided pendants (you have the option of showing a mantra or crystal).

The soberly feminine collection gained inspiration from the ancient jewels of Jaipur, India. This traditional style is built around the concept of letting the shape of the gem determine the gold (or metal) around it. In this collection, gold languidly imitates the stone, softly hugging its form and emphasizing the tear-dropped crystals. Stones, cut to be ultra-reflective, with flat upper surfaces and rounded lower surfaces give the impression of depth. Indeed, these jewels are substantial yet tender.

Words, gold, and gemstones fluidly meet and the outcome is nuanced fluidity, or as Diane describes her designs, “strength, empowerment, and beauty.”
