Do You Have an Orange Crush?

Beauty looks from the S/S 2011 Derek Lam show created by Estee Lauder’s creative makeup director, Tom Pecheux.

I’ve had the biggest crush on orange since going backstage at the S/S 2011 Derek Lam show back in September. It’s one of the few punchy colors that you can get away with day-to-night and I love how Tom Pecheux from Estee Lauder paired it with a muted face to really have the color take center stage. A few months ago I met Pecheux at a small event Estee Lauder hosted and he’s the sweetest, most adorable French man! He had just wrapped up working on the Victoria’s Secret show and while it was cool to hear about the hours of makeup (including butt makeup!), and refreshing to hear that the gorgeous angels aren’t necessarily as stunning as we think, but rather just very photogenic (thanks for making us feel better Tom, but I don’t know if I believe that!), what everyone really want to know about was Orange Crush.

bar_refaeli_elle_russia.jpgPecheux talked to us about how at the Lam show he actually used coral lip pencil as an eyeliner because he couldn’t find a shadow that popped. Then, right after the show he called an Estee Lauder executive and told her that they had to make an eye shadow in a popping orange color to mimic the look he created – literally the show had not been over for 5 minutes when the wheels were already working to get this baby in production!

The line consists of two PureColor shadows, Orange Crush and Sugar Cube, along with a Pure Color Gloss in Orange Crush (check-out Bar Refaeli on the cover of this month’s Russian Elle for some ideas on how to wear the look).

Take my word for it, if you like these shades stop by Bergdorf Goodman or order them online ASAP because they’re going to sell-out (something I’ve learned the hard way with a few of Estee Lauder’s limited edition nail lacquers). Orange not your thing? Jump for more!

Aside from Orange Crush, Estee Lauder also launched a massive arsenal of new lipstick shades There are a whopping 39 new Pure Color lipsticks and Pecheux has a six-shade signature line with his favorite shades (Vanilla Truffle was used in the Lam show). They’ve also got 16 new nail lacquers. What I can say about the lipsticks is that I love the packaging because you can see the color on the bottom just like you would a gloss. How annoying is it usually when you have to open five tubes of lipstick just to find the one you want? As for the Estee Lauder nail lacquers, as much as I love essie nail colors I’m so sick of how they chip after two days. I’ve done a bunch of DIY manicures with Estee Lauder and they’ll last at least a week, so they’re always my go-to when I’m traveling…which I’m hoping to do a lot of now that it’s finally getting warmer!
