Levi’s x Opening Ceremony Skirt Dress at Barneys New York

leviopeningceremonyskirtdress.jpg

Opening Ceremony is known for its quirky and often brilliant collaborations. For their second collection with Levi’s, they have struck a balance between Opening Ceremony’s modern take on the vintage dress and Levi’s classic American blue jeans. The cinched-waist swing skirt – ideal for a good twirl – is a throwback to ladylike days of the fifties, but the sleeveless top and worker collar gives it a Rosie the Riveter feel: sweet and strong. The dress works thanks to the smart fabric choice: cotton chambray, for a denim look without actually being denim. Certain pockets on dresses can add unflattering heft. This one, like most jeans, does have pockets, but they’re hidden in the full skirt. Plus, pockets are helpful when posing for pictures. I love pieces of clothing neutral enough to be influenced by styling choices. This is such a great spring dress to accessorize; you can go so many ways depending on the shoe and jewels. At Barneys New York for $275.

Pair with: Opening Ceremony’s own “Camila” tubular-strap high-heeled sandals, in contrasting hot coral and blue nubuck (reminiscent of the cotton chambray), bring a cool edge to the classic-with-a-twist dress. On ShopBop for $545.

  1. One of my favorite current collabs. Love this dress too. I tried it on at the Levi’s store in NYC/MeatPacking District. Loved the look, but the full skirt is a bit short on me, so I didn’t end up buying it. But it would look cute with leggings and Ankle boots. Love Opening Ceremony’s curated collection a must-see store on trips to NYC.
