Barneys New York Rope Mail Bag: The Price of Sunshine?

barneys-rope-mail-bag.png

This Clementine-tinted bag is so joyous and cute; I just wish it were priced to match. I expect to be hassled for saying this because yes, I have $3,000 bags and call them worthy investments. But let’s be real: this is Barneys Private Label and it has a rope handle. We’re not exactly talking about an heirloom that you’ll be passing down to the next generation; it might not even make it to next season.

Rather, this is a nice beachy, casual bag for the here and now, with sunshine-sheened brown leather to make the world shine a little brighter. I always love a pocket under the front flap of a bag, but if you fasten the bag the way you’re meant to, it’s not accessible. The closure is a leather strap you tie in a small knot – I don’t think so. Good thing it’s not essential and a loose tie brings even more carefree flair. The short shoulder strap pulls it together, so it’s not too sloppy. Some bohemian summer flair for a not-quite bohemian price – maybe I’ll be a frugal snob and wait until it goes on sale in July. At Barneys New York for $895.

Pair with: A crisp Fendi wedge in tan with a smooth yes naturalistic big wooden platform. Rope, wood, and neutral leathers feel right together at the moment. Fendi T-Strap Wedges, $770.
