Splendid Striped Canvas Backpack: Splendidly Easy!

splendid-striped-canvas-bpack.png

Before you raise an eyebrow, think about it: a girl needs a backpack! Well, at least a mom does. And it’s not for my kid. I have field trips to chaperone, amusement parks to explore, airports to run through. I am done dealing with a tote, or even a messenger with a crossbody strap. Sometimes, you just need what is kindest to your back and keeps your hands free.

I would have unhappily survived without a backpack this summer if I didn’t find one cute enough (I’m busy, not crazy!), but oh my, this one is way adorable. The great leather tab detail – doesn’t hurt that it reminds me of Henry Cuir – and splashy red stitching are just the touches of pizzazz I demand on any bag. Plus, it’s got function to spare: the red fabric-lined interior has pockets for cell phones. The compact size is just right for city strolling; you won’t look like you’re searching for the nearest campsite, God forbid.

Splendid, of all people, has given us the greatest nautical-striped canvas backpack that exudes summer fun – a fashion item that can stand up to city living. And frugal snob approved! On ShopBop for $128.

Pair with: A denim jacket completes the look that a chaotic spring outing demands. Notify’s fresh new white-stretch one – slightly shrunken, a little cropped – is dapper, not dowdy. On Net-a-Porter for $235.

  1. I just can’t do a backpack. I suffered through college and grad school carrying seriously heavy books and an uber-heavy laptop (this was when “light” laptops were 7+ pounds!) with a tote bag because I just refused to wear a backpack. My back suffered for fashion and will until I just can’t stand it anymore!

By the way, I love the “pair with” feature that you have added to all posts. However, with a denimy blue and white stripe, I don’t think I would pair it with blue or white or denim (too matchy matchy). I would go bold with a yellow frilly dress or a pink maxi or something.

  2. It really is not that young, I love it! Well, it’s not like I’m going to take this to a girls lunch or even shopping. This is for weekends and airports! I can’t wait to use it, now I’m looking forward to a field trip or something!!
