Estee Lauder New Skincare Launches

A few months ago I went to an Estee Lauder event to get the lowdown on the new editions to their skincare line: Idealist Cooling Eye Illuminator ($58), Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator ($58), and DayWear Sheer Tint Release Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Moisturizer SPF 15 ($43), all of which are now available for purchase. First for the good. The Skintone Illuminator has been formulated to tackle skin tone concerns including redness, blotchiness, discoloration, and acne and while I can’t vouch for any of that (knock on wood I don’t suffer from any of those issues), I can say that the instant “illuminating” boost my skin gets every time I slather this on is pretty remarkable. Combined with DayWear I not only get SPF protection, but the moisturizer slightly mattifies the serum while imparting a slight tint so I get the natural glow look versus looking like I’m glowing because I have lots of cream on my face.

The downside? Man oh man does DayWear stink! Literally every single time it touches my skin all I can think of is the smell of Nair (you don’t smell it if you just open the tube, but you’ll smell it immediately when it touches your skin). On the plus side the scent does go away within seconds which is why despite it being pretty awful I’ve been using it since I got it. The Skintone Illuminator on the other hand has a light citrus-y scent that’s a lot more pleasant, but also dissipates in a few seconds. As for the Cooling Eye Illuminator, it’s applied with a ceramic applicator tip and what I like about it is that it’s cooling without my needing to put it in the fridge.

Personally I’m torn as to whether or not I’d buy these products once the samples I was given run out because they have made my skin look great (sometimes I use Skintone Illuminator and DayWear instead of liquid foundation), but they work best together and the smell oh the smell of DayWear!
