Yves Saint Laurent “ChYc” Shopper: No Need to Shop Around

If you’ve managed to hold out this long without a good, basic, classical tote, listen carefully: You need a tote. Everyone can use a tote. And the Yves Saint Laurent “ChYc” shopper tote is a surefire staple.

Sure, it kind of sits in the background, with its black leather, almost-nonexistent hardware, and clean straps, but sometimes a bag like this is in order. Especially when you want to wear color or accessorize freely. A simple shopper leaves room for you to break the rules elsewhere. At least this one has some personality and a tiny bit of bling. The subtle yet noticeable “Y” logo keeps the bag relevant without being annoying; only those in the know will get the reference. Plus, that smartly designed, patent-leather “Y” serves a purpose: it’s also an outer pocket, a super-fab detail. I can vouch for this bag based on personal experience. I have a YSL shopper that I continue to use on the regular, as I increasingly appreciate its utilitarian ease. At Nordstrom for $1,195.

Pair with: Get your kicks via a white top with a feverishly feminine flourish. Derek Lam‘s big-bow halter could not be worn with an overt bag, or you’d be encroaching on “kook” territory. Derek Lam Bow Tie Halter Top, $550.
