If You Give a Tot a Camera….

canon_samsung_albumcollage.jpg

If you give a tot a camera, she will want to go on vacation. When you’re on vacation, she will take lots of photos, and some of them might even reveal where she is. Others will be of her toys. When taking pictures of her toys, she will want to go to the toy store to get more toys. If you happen to be in Taipei (which we are!) the toy store will have miniature statues of Taipei 101, the 2nd tallest building in the world, and she will want to go there.

While at the top of Taipei 101, she will take interesting pictures of buildings below. But instead of taking pictures of the panorama, to show how far you can see, like a grown up would, she will actually want to take pictures of what is directly below. She will walk up and down flights of stairs to see the various exhibits which will make her very hungry and she will want to get a snack.

At the cafe where she had strawberry soda and mom and dad had coffee, she will see people outside setting up a table full of paper money, fruits and incense. She will be very curious and ask a lot of questions and go out and take pictures of the offering table. After the explanation of this Buddhist tradition she will still be very confused and when we get back to where we are staying, she will want to see the pictures she took. When looking at the pictures she took, she will be amazed at her own work of art and will want to go on more vacations.

Here are my top choices for cameras for your tot when you go on your next vacation. Some are made for tots, like the Vtech Kidizoom Plus Digital Camera but it doesn’t take the greatest pictures. The Kodak EasyShare is another great option for younger tots because it is very simple to use, but I don’t like the price. But if you have a high tech tot who already knows how to program your DVR with her eyes closed, the Canon PowerShot is my favorite for the price and features. You can also find the best mirrorless cameras under 1000 online.

Vtech Kidizoom Plus Digital Camera $53.46

Kodak EasyShare C182 Digital Camera $79.00

Canon PowerShot A490 10.0 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5-Inch LCD $59.00
