J.Crew Boys’ Seersucker Suit: The Un-Sucky Seersucker

jcrew_seersucker_suit.jpg

I’m going to set the record straight. Seersucker isn’t just for nice Southern boys. Or old Southern gentlemen, for that matter. If worn the right way, it can look hip enough so your little man won’t get beaten up! It makes me crazy when my friends with sons make fun of me for liking the “sensitive” look for boys (and “sensitive” is not the word they use…it’s another “s” word!).

J. Crew’s tailored all-cotton seersucker sportcoat is lightweight and perfect for looking good on a warm day. With a lapel collar, chest and flap pockets – not that I’m going to recommend putting a pocket square up there – and buttons-for-looks-only on the sleeves, this will make your tot look cool in a traditional way. The ultra-soft pants sport an all-around elastic waistband that makes them fit now and later. Plus, your tot won’t have any problem hooking the easy closure. I suggest pairing this suit with a bold graphic or bright colored tee so it will appeal to both boy and mom. It’s all about modern styling.

And the shoes must be anything but dress shoes (that would surely tip the scale!) – street shoes, a pair of Converse (they’d look amazing), or the Vans style shown here would all work to keep the look manly.

Sportcoat for $118.

Classic Fit Pant for $58.

Boys’ Jersey Pocket Tee at J.Crew for $9.99 (from $14.50).
