Lanvin “Amalia” Python-Print Shoulder Bag: The Great Compromise

lanvin_amalia_python_print_shoulder_bag.jpg

When I saw the Lanvin “Happy” tote in all its real python lusciousness for $3,585, I was tempted to clean out my savings. When I laid eyes on the crocodile version, for about $17,000, I came close to selling my car! (This bag should be called “Desire,” not “Happy.”) But thankfully, my passion for bags is curbed by my overriding pragmatism. And Lanvin seems to be like-minded, which leads us to this python-print shoulder bag.

Much more user friendly than the decadent “Happy,” the “Amalia” is an all-day, everyday essential brimming with the classic Lanvin chic we know and love, and none of the frilly fuss (as in ribbons and appliqués).

You get a top handle (which can fit over the shoulders of more petite frames) and a longer, detachable strap for occasional cross-body wear. With an expandable, zip-around gusset, it’s big enough for both business and pleasure. Besides, cognac calfskin suede will go with a multitude more outfits and withstand a higher degree of dirt than pristine pale pink.

Sure, even though it’s thousands less than its counterparts, it still doesn’t have a Frugal Snob price tag, but we’re talking Lanvin. And coming from your pragmatic shopping pal, at least it’s in line with what is acceptable without requiring a major lifestyle change! At Neiman Marcus for $1,750.

Pair with: Gorgeous gold chain-straps mean you don’t need to break the bank with bejeweled accoutrements. Play up the woodsy tones and wear a five-stack of bangles that will cost less than dinner and a glass of wine! Jen’s Pirate Booty Wooden Bangle Set, $50.

  1. I just splurged on a python Happy after admiring it for a year. And let me tell you, I am indeed VERY HAPPY. This bag is cute, but I am not convinced on the shoulder and cross-body strap combo.
