Oonagh by Nanette Lepore: Reality Check

nanettelepore_dress.jpg

Not that the Nanette Lepore mother line is so stiff she needs a casual T-shirt-based collection, but I sure do love the look of these dresses. Clothes for real life! Interesting, asymmetric cuts and ruffled cotton make for dresses you can live in but still look like you made an effort or two.

An overlay of pleated chiffon sets a dressier tone on the easy French terry cotton dress. (Detach the canvas straps for a sexier option.) For me, the maxi is one of life’s key wardrobe ingredients – and the “Vernon” silk is a standout in midnight blue – but a good striped mini will serve as the icing on the cake for hot evenings.

I’m ready to stock up on all four just in time for my hectic summer travel schedule. They’ll pack easy without wrinkling, only the striped “Akira” requires dry-cleaning, and they’ll only take up a small corner of the suitcase. Not bad for what are sure to be a few of this season’s most valuable players!

“Clifton” French Terry Dress on Shopbop for $148.

“Raidon” Asymmetric Hem Dress at Saks Fifth Avenue for $178.

“Vernon” Silk Maxi Dress at Saks Fifth Avenue for $348.

“Akira” Asymmetric Dress at Saks Fifth Avenue for $168.
