Reed Krakoff Snakeskin and Leather Sandals: Move in Mysterious Ways

This is such a strange way to describe a shoe, but if the finest piece of salmon that had ever been caught was cooked by a genius designer with a chef’s training, this just might be the outcome. Yes, it’s a crazy-looking shoe, and yes, it’s far more palatable than anything you’ll catch swimming upstream. Composed of every texture there is – burnt orangey coral and virginal pink suede, ridged and textural lizard, plus metallic silver leather – makes for a mélange that’s interesting enough on its own. Then there are the swirling asymmetrical lines that, for some reason, make me think of the Phantom of the Opera – maybe simply because there’s something mysterious here. Four opposing textures plus Picasso-inspired shapes seem like it should be too much; then again, it works in a Nicholas Kirkwood kind of way. The lines frame, not cover, the foot for an outcome that’s intriguing, not intrusive. On Net-a-Porter for $795.

Pair with: I’d definitely go easy on the pairing, to say the least. You don’t want any more fighting elements and the beauty of the shoe will get lost in the competition. Chloé’s loosely sashed silk crepe de chine dress is offbeat with danceable flow. On Net-a-Porter for $1,675.
