Alessandra Rich Silk-Paneled Crepe-Jersey Column Gown: I Wouldn’t Make a Habit of It

Is it just me or does this look strikingly like a nun’s habit? Not that I know any nuns (wait, do I even know any nuns?!) who sport up-to-there slits. The good girl gone bad is an enduring theme, but if sexy, elegant nuns are now on-trend, I didn’t get the memo. Although this does bring me back to a certain 2009 cover of French Vogue, where Lara Stone is featured as a cleavage-flaunting, lipstick-wearing woman of God.

Anything goes when it comes to editorial, but I’m not sure how Alessandra Rich‘s dress, with a crepe de chine white bib, fits into real life. Would it be fun and fabulous to wear this to see “Sister Act” on Broadway? Or cheesy and lame?

Wherever you end up, I can’t imagine wanting to look so austere. Aside from the high-voltage shock of leg, this black-and-white number is way grim – and quite uniform-like.

I guess the only thing to pair with a dress like this is a cornette and wimple (okay, I admit I had to look that up – that would be the head covering and the veil that covers the neck). Then you have the most expensive Halloween costume ever. Either that, or you’ll make it into French Vogue! On Net-a-Porter for $2,045.
