Alaïa Alligator-Trimmed Suede Tote: Quality Over Quantity?

Adorning a luscious suede, top-handle frame tote with a deeply chic trim of alligator is as refined as bags come. Alaïa is tempting us with a timeless treasure to be loved for generations. With a price tag that your future generations might be paying off for you! So, no, it’s not outrageous when you’re talking exotic skins. But all we have here is just a tiny scrap of gator, not the full enchilada. Well, like I said, this bag reeks of timelessness, and that will pay itself off with a lifetime of wear. But still, I cannot get over the nearly $5,000 tag!

That doesn’t mean I love it any less. I appreciate how the tension frame opens to its own compartment on each side. Not only can you keep everything organized but you can see it all too, so no rummaging around. The internal hanging mirror is a nice touch, and the super-subtle pull-tab brings delicacy to a large handbag. With no hardware to speak of, the emphasis is left where it should be: on the shiny-skin top and handle. Definitively ladylike, this is almost vintage in style – so you know it can’t go out of style. Suede is especially nice during the winter months, but this is clearly a great all-around, go-to bag. And well it should be! On Net-a-Porter for $4,860.

Pair with: This would make a killer day look with Doo.Ri‘s asymmetrical jersey dress ($1,095), Mason Martin Margiela’s red suede booties ($985), W.Kleinberg’s skinny leopard-print belt ($175) – in the office and far beyond.
