For all of us who thought black is black, YSL is here to school us with their new line of black mascaras! Well….kind of. The collection includes six wands each with a creamy, volume-boosting formulation in a different shade of black. Black is used a little loosely however and while there’s a Deep Black shade in the collection, most of the other shades veer more on the color-side than on what you’d expect when you hear “black.” I’ve only tried the No. 4 Sea Black shade on my eyes and by most accounts it’s blue. Aside from the two aforementioned colors there’s Ashy Black, Bronze Black, Cherry Black, and Jade Black. It’s a cool idea and I’m always one to subtly deviate from classic black because it lets you add some color to your look without taking much of a risk. Plus it’s hard to argue with the appeal of the gold wand and anyone who has tried the original Faux Cils mascara from YSL knows that the formulation is killer — thick, clump-free, long-lasting, and the brush is long making for a quick and easy application especially if you layer it over this primer from Givenchy. Trust that no matter what shade you opt for your lashes will look longer and thicker — black, bronze, or blue:)
