Meli Melo Thela Bag: Not So Mellow

Now you see it, now you don’t. I’m loving Meli Melo’s ingenious way of securing a bag’s shoulder strap when it’s not in use: instead of detaching it or letting it dangle (either kind of a pain or sloppy-looking), they have turned it into the bag’s focal point by clipping it to the closure for an intriguing butterfly effect.

The top-handle is also unusual, as it turns in instead of out, like the Hermès Lindy. Sometimes all it takes is a clever regard for straps (when function and design meet seamlessly) to make a big, everyday bag feel special. I already love Meli Melo (remember our fab giveaway?) for their exceptional value and practicality, but this type of cool intelligence catapults the brand to new heights. Meli Melo will not be mellow for long, prepare for exuberance! On ShopBop for $760.

Pair with: Go sporty with a pair of bounce-around kicks, like pink Converse ($60), sparkly Miu Miu ($495), gold-accented Superga for The Row ($190), pumped-up Monika Chiang ($385), or laid-back J.Crew Tretorn ($68).

  1. That does look pretty, and functional as long as you don’t need to rummage in your purse for a stretch of time. Looks like you’d have to unhook the two clasps to be able to open the flap to have access to the interior. My boyfriend complains my “purse procedure” is already too time-consuming!
