Chanel Couture Spring 2013 Beauty: Meshy Lashes

Chanel Couture Spring 2013 Beauty

This collection isn’t the jaw-dropping fantasy that we’re used to seeing, but the setting was certainly fantastical – a fairytale forest brought to life inside Paris’s Grand Palais. And for once the couture took a backseat to beauty. I love the drama of these mesh lashes! Impeccably crafted by Peter Philips (the global creative director for Chanel makeup), the mesh creations were a special blend of fashion and beauty. They easily could have gone wrong and looked a hot mess, but with precise cutting and of course, some real graphite eyeliner, the layers created a smeared and yet, surprisingly pretty look. Just like regular falsies, the fabric was attached to the lash line, giving the illusion of feathered black flames. The spectacular style made the models look just like porcelain dolls (albeit the slightly scary kind that you wouldn’t give to your kids). As in all fantasies, there’s always something dark lurking beneath the surface.
