Alexander McQueen Skull Tassel Box Clutch: Razzle-Dazzle and Tassels

Alexander McQueen Skull Tassel Box Clutch

While a lot of what’s going on here is amazingly cool, a perfect bag this is not. Sure, the Art Deco-inspired combination of high-shine patent leather and reflective golden metal exudes pure glamour, and it’s about as unusual-looking as an evening bag can be (without looking all-out ridiculous). But the tassel accents – perfectly symmetrical, so you know some thought went in to them – are way too huge, almost to the point of absurdity.

Still, the vintage-throwback shape, along with the way the clutch hinges open, like a delicate, old-fashion box, is the best thing ever. Just when you think it might be looking a little too retro, keep in mind Alexander McQueen’s skull-topped closure is fully in tact, along with a modern-day shoulder strap. It will be a bit tough to carry with everyday looks, especially with those exaggerated tassels, but then again, the extreme specificity is what makes it so special. Alexander McQueen Skull Tassel Box Clutch at Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,1995.

Pair with: This warrants a femme fatale-worthy pump that’s cut with some edge, like Christian Louboutin’s So Kate style: made of gray and white python that forms a cool cross print. At Bergdorf Goodman for $1,395.
