Charlotte Olympia Fall 2014 Collection Clutches: China Dolls

Charlotte Olympia

This season, Charlotte Olympia and I are on the same page when it comes Chinese appreciation. Well, I always have Chinese appreciation, but I will be taking a trip to Taiwan this fall to spend extended time with my family, so my reverence is at a high. From the look of her latest bags, it looks like Charlotte’s feeling the same way for Fall ‘14.

From the blooming, geometric Lotus clutch in shiny gold-tone brass to the no-holds-barred appliquéd Opera Star bag in silk-satin to the graphic and artful Fan box to ultra-cheeky Bao Bao Panda minaudière, complete with bamboo-leaf closure: let’s not talk about whether or not these bags are offensive – that’s boring. Ms. Dellal loves the Chinese culture, so let’s just leave it at that. Some bags are meant to be nothing more than grown-up toys and playthings, and these pieces fall right into that lighthearted category, while remaining artful in execution. And although the Bao Bao Panda may be stereotypical, you have to admit that face is damn cute. My favorites are the lacquered fan, for its versatility (this could go day to night, jeans to black-tie) and the unabashed Opera Star for its beautiful boldness. Lotus clutchicon, $2,595, and Opera Star bagicon, $995, on NET-A-PORTER; Fan clutchicon, $1,412, on Farfetch; and Bao Bao Panda clutchicon, $1,395, at Bergdorf Goodman.
