Free Bread: THE BEST Gluten-Free Bread

Untitled

First things first, let’s get one thing straight: gluten-free is NOT code word for healthy. In fact many gluten-free products have tons of added sugar, sodium, fat, and chemicals. A gluten-free cookie is still a cookie and a gluten-free piece of bread is still a piece of bread and if you’re looking to shed weight, you should avoid these. It kills me to see people ruin their diets because they fall prey to marketing gimmicks – especially because a lot of the gluten-free products actually taste like cardboard. One clear exception? Free Bread. It’s not for nothing that it’s the bread of choice for everyone from Le Bernardin to The Mandarin Oriental. The brand’s handmade fresh-baked breads (All breads are baked by hand in a 100% gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free facility) are simply fantastic – whether you have celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity or not, if you’re looking for high quality bread that’s dense, rich, flavorful, and filling, you’ll have a hard time beating them. I’m addicted to their flax rolls, but they make a bunch of other loafs, croutons, and buns as well (along with a number of other roll varieties). Again this is not a diet food and many of their breads are pretty high in calories so don’t eat them thinking they’re a health food per se, but that said the quality of ingredients is tops. There are no fillers and there isn’t a ton of sodium in most of their products so if you’re going to “indulge” in bread, this one is very highly recommended. Plus because the quality of the ingredients is so high, most of the products are dense so you’ll fill up fast.
