Top 5 Capes: Suit Up

Capes

Capes are for superheroes. And of course, all women qualify as those. The cape has been a thing for a few seasons now but this Fall, it is a must. The best thing about the style is, it doesn’t matter what you wear underneath. Well, at least it doesn’t matter as much. Just make sure the bottoms you pair it with are not too wide, you want the cape to be the center of attention, and besides, you want to avoid the tent effect! I went on a shopping expedition for THE cape for me, and the choices were so numerous, it was very hard to narrow down. Depending on how you plan on wearing it, as outerwear, casually or an evening stunner, here for my five top choices. And if that’s not enough, check out our curated collection on eBay!

Band of Outsiders Peak Lapel Cape: Why wear a basic blazer to work when you could wear a blazer cape? On Shopbop for $1,195.

Ralph Lauren Black Label Leather Dean Cape:icon I’m not saying the biker jacket has seen its last days – not by a long shot – but if you’re looking for a change, this city-chic leather cape will have you feeling refreshed. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $3,995.

Carven Double-Breasted Cape:icon Pair this over a mini dress while the temps are still high, or with skinny jeans on chilly fall days. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,270.

Valentino Embroidered Eagle Cape:icon That’s a lot of zeroes! This full-length, eagle-embroidered cape is the statement-maker to beat, though. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $10,000.

Richard Nicoll Wool and Angora-Blend Cape Coat:icon Contrasting lapels give this a touch of formal flair, making this cape the perfect coat for work events and everyday trips to the office. On MATCHESFASHION.com for $1,545.

  1. Brilliant. Simple, well cut capes. Maybe I could use one as a coat. Might work for formal wear too, especially the Band of Outsiders and the Richard Nicholl one. This and the Ralph Lauren cape fit in my budget too. Always had a soft-spot for leather though!
