Christopher Raeburn Hare and Polar Bear Shoulder Bags: Snob or Slob?

Christopher Raeburn Hare and Polar Bear Shoulder Bags

Has kitsch gone too far? I think we’ve already established the answer is yes, probably. There is a fine line between animal magnetism (just look at Fendi’s cute yet intelligently abstract Demi Jour Penguin bag) and animal madness. Remember those fuzzy, floppy teddy bear backpacks young girls carried in the mid-to-late ‘90s? Christopher Raeburn’s duo of shoulder bags are just like those, just several hundred dollars more expensive. And if young girls were meant to carry one of these forest or arctic critters (price aside), that would be perfectly acceptable.

But obviously, they’re not. The Hare bag, as well as the Polar Bear bag, in both navy and cream, are clearly intended for us grownups. While the construction is not bad at all, and considering they’re in the shape of stuffed animals, the look is relatively minimalistic and modern, you’ve got to admit it’s pretty gimmicky to carry something like this around if you’re over the age of 16. Lolita complex or desperate for attention much? Or maybe I’m being too harsh. Do you think these essential-toting toys are kind of cute or rather tragic?
