Michaels of Brooklyn: Tomato Sauce So Good You Don’t Need the Pasta

Michaels of Brooklyn

If ever there was tomato sauce so good you didn’t even need pasta it would be Michaels of Brooklyn…like you can eat this stuff out of the jar it’s so amazing. What’s even more impressive however is that the sauces will keep indefinitely as long as you keep them sealed. I was shocked by this because unlike pretty much every other sauce you find at your local supermarket – even the supposedly gourmet ones – these aren’t loaded with chemicals and preservatives. In fact, the sauces, which come in six flavors (marinara, fresh tomato & basil, filetto di pomodoro, puttanesca, arrabbiata, and home style gravy), are handmade in the Brooklyn restaurant using only fresh ingredients (i.e. no preservatives), including tomatoes imported from Italy. Literally everything that goes into these sauces is carefully sourced fresh and prepped, sautéed, and blended by hand in the restaurant’s kitchen. While they’re clearly designed with pasta-type dishes in mind, they work great to top healthier things like steamed vegetables, especially if you’re someone who struggles to eat healthfully, these sauces are a good way to add more flavor. Of course they work great on top of meat and pasta as well and you can’t compare the nutritional value of fresh tomatoes to tomatoes from concentrate…
