High-Tech Father’s Day Gifts: The Latest for the Greatest

High-Tech Father's Day Gifts

The classic question goes, what do you get the man who has it all? Well, we finally have an answer. The latest technology! I’m sure he has tons of ties, Blu-Rays, and sports-related paraphernalia, but odds are he doesn’t have each and every new gadget on the market. Luckily for us, my husband is a Tech Snob who reads all of the tech blogs and magazines. Together, we came up with the gifts that dad will love so much, he won’t know how he lived without them before.

Epson Color Bright Portable Projector
Remember those projection televisions? They faded out, quite literally, because the picture was so bad, but now there’s a whole new wave of technology that makes the picture perfect and comes compact for travel. Though I’m guilty of watching everything on my iPad, I’m starting to think that I want to go back to the big screen days. It’s just that the convenience of the iPad is so unbeatable, and sometimes I don’t feel like being in the living room where we keep the Apple TV. This is the perfect solution, and Epson has the highest rating for color brightness. Sure, this is supposed to be for Father’s Day, but, hey, we can share! Available on Amazon for $399.

DJI Phantom 3 Drone with Camera
If your dad or husband didn’t get his drone for Christmas like everyone else, then this is your chance to make it up to him and give him the opportunity to gloat about how it was worth waiting for the newer, better, shinier version (that’s conveniently being released just in time for Father’s Day). It ships on June 15th, and I’ve found that Amazon is good about ensuring that you receive items on their release dates. A friend of mine has the DJI Phantom 2, and you’d think it was his third child based on how much he loves it. He took the drone to a wedding in Thailand where the ceremony was held on the water; he was able to capture the most amazing footage from above. It’s his favorite party trick, and although nobody says it out loud, all the men envy him. Imagine the footage your husband will get of all your kids’ sporting games! Just make sure he’s coordinated enough to handle the maneuvering because this is an expensive toy to crash and burn. And don’t worry if it’s too expensive to gift this year; next year, the Lily Camera will be released. It’s a drone that follows you and shoots the action from the perfect vantage point. Available on Amazon for $999. If you don’t have the budget for this, a high-quality camera strap at HoldFast Gear can also be a great gift if your Dad is an avid photographer. Here’s the link to buy it at HoldFast Gear.

Tesla Powerwall
If you already have a Tesla (or like me, just really want one), then you’ll be keen to get any battery technology from Elon Musk. The Powerwall is something my husband is nuts over; I’ve never seen him so excited about anything! It stores energy from your electrical company or solar panels. Before this system, if you had solar panels, you had to use that energy right away; it couldn’t be stored, but now you can save it, making solar that much more feasible. For electricity, it’s helpful because rates vary throughout the day depending on usage, so when you really need it, like at night, the prices surge. During the day when it’s much lower, the Powerwall will store up energy at the optimal time for pricing. Spend money to save money! It adds up. 10 kWh ($3,500) for backup applications or 7 kWh ($3,00o) for daily cycle applications. Available at Tesla.

Trunkster Smart Luggage
Ever have trouble finding an outlet to charge at while traveling? This water and impact-resistant bag comes with its own removable power bank where you can charge your gadgets via USB port. There are also no zippers, making TSA checks easy, as you simply need to slide the bag open from the top. It even comes with a built-in scale in the handle, so you know if the weight is above the airline’s max. And did I mention that for an extra $40, you can get GPS? The airline can NEVER lose your luggage again. This smart suitcase was funded by Kickstarter, which, as an entrepreneur, is my favorite invention ever! Watch Trunkster’s demo video below. You’ll be as sold as I am. I’m ordering mine now while they’re still running a pre-order promo of 40% off. Carry-on ($325), checked ($350), and set ($650) available on Trunkster.
